The Compassionate Fund

Evergreen End of Life Care Foundation currently provides funding to support End-of-Life Doula services. Payments are made directly to the doula on a monthly basis. As Evergreen continues to grow, we plan to expand our offerings and increase the number of service hours we are able to provide.

If you or a family member need assistance finding an End-of-Life Doula, please reach out to us. We have resources available to support you during this time. Looking ahead, we hope to expand our resources further by creating a compassionate fund to assist with funeral services, estate planning, and other essential end-of-life needs.

Application Process for End of Life Doulas

An End-of-Life Doula may apply for funding on behalf of a client by completing the application below. Our goal is to make this process as supportive and accessible as possible during what can be a tender and challenging time.

Each application is thoughtfully reviewed by Evergreen. Requests may be approved, denied, or returned with a request for additional information so we can best understand the needs of the client and doula. The current pay rate is $30 per hour. Funding renewals are based on available resources and the timely submission of monthly progress reports. Applications are typically reviewed within two (2) business days.

If a situation is urgent and funding is needed right away, please email us at [email protected]
 with the subject line “Emergency Request.” We will do our best to review emergency requests within 6–12 hours, depending on when the email is received.

Doulas are also welcome to pre-apply to the Compassionate Fund. To pre-apply, please email the required documents listed below with the subject line “Pre-Applying.” Having these materials on file may help streamline the process if funding is needed in the future. Please note that pre-applying does not guarantee approval, as all requests are carefully considered based on available funds, case details, and the submission of progress reports.

If the application is approved:
To help ensure safety, professionalism, and continuity of care, the End-of-Life Doula (also known as a Death Doula) will be asked to provide:
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of training and/or NEDA Proficiency*
  • Background check clearance**

If an application is not approved.
Evergreen will share the reason with the doula whenever possible. Due to limited funding, we may not be able to support every request, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to steward our resources responsibly.

* NEDA Proficiency:
For more information about NEDA Proficiency, please visit the link below. The National End-of-Life Doula Alliance offers one scholarship each month to help cover the $115 assessment fee.

** Background Check Requirement:
Background checks are completed at the doula’s expense through the ICHAT website linked below, at a cost of $10. Please remember to save your report before leaving the site. If you would prefer to use a different background check service, we invite you to reach out so we can discuss options together.
